If your loving pet underwent anesthesia in the last few weeks, it is very possible they refluxed while under anesthesia and now have esophagitis. Gastrointestinal reflux, or acid reflux, is one of the most common causes of esophagitis, the term applied to inflammation of the esophagus in dogs. This is a serious disease and must be treated immediately and aggressively so that a stricture does not form.
